Case Western Reserve University is a leading independent research institution located in Cleveland, Ohio. The 267-acre campus is home to 5,121 undergraduates and an additional 6,219 graduate and professional students. University Circle is in the school’s backyard, encompassing some of the city’s top art, cultural and medical institutions. Cleveland has experienced a rebirth in the last few years thanks to an influx of young professionals, creative chefs, an NBA championship title, and serving as host city to the recent Republican convention.

Transportation: Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) provides daily nonstop and connecting service to many U.S. cities and major global destinations. If you're not traveling by air, Greyhound and Megabus provide inter-city transportation options. Amtrak offers daily service via its Lakefront and Capitol Limited lines. 

Stay: Glidden House, is an impressive mansion built in 1910, now a boutique hotel conveniently located right on campus. The Courtyard Cleveland University Circle, situated in University Circle is also primarily on campus and another convenient choice.  Many parents stay at The Tudor Arms, a DoubleTree Hotel in University Circle.  Do you prefer to stay downtown? The Kimpton Schofield, which opened in 2016, has everyone talking, now considered one of the best hotels in the city, joining the well-respected recently remodeled Ritz Carlton, the Westin, and the Hilton, with a panoramic bar on the 32nd floor bar, perfect for a pre dinner cocktail after a long day touring.

Coffee: Join the students bright and early at Cool Beanz as they rush to class, located inside the Tinkham Veale University Center. Other popular spots for a morning joe include The Coffee House at University Circle or the Starbucks on Euclid Ave.

Breakfast: Students steered us to Luna Bakery Café for a quick bite or the Inn on Coventry with an extensive menu of breakfast items. In town on the weekend, students love to bring their parents to the Washington Place Bistro and Inn for brunch; we hear the Bananas Foster French Toast is a must order.

Lunch: Operated by Case Western Students and a mainstay on campus The Jolly Scholar has an extensive menu of salads, soups, pizzas, and burgers. In the Tinkham Veale University Center, Michelson and Morley is an upscale American-style bistro while the more casual Melt University offers signature grilled cheese sandwiches, from the acclaimed chef behind Popular Melt Bar and Grill. Order food to go at The Cleveland Museum of Art’s Provenance Café, and sit inside the spectacular light-filled atrium designed by architect Rafael Viñoly. As part of the museum’s bold renovation. Little Italy is a historic neighborhood adjacent to University Circle and the Case Western campus, lively with bakeries, art galleries, and authentic Italian restaurants. Have lunch at one of the local favorites like Trattoria on the Hill, Mia Bella, or Guarino's for Italian home cooking. Don't forget to leave room for dessert from Corbo’s Bakery or Presti's Bakery, a Cleveland institution.

Dinner

Casual: Fresh ingredients make Tex-Mex Agave Burrito Bar one of the most popular spots in town. Staying in Cleveland? BBQ is trending right now, try Iron Chef Michael Symon’s Mabel’s BBQ or Smokin' Q's BBQ and Beer House. Choose any three fruits and create a unique margarita at Momocho, a modern Mexican cantina decorated with colorful Lucha Libre masks and dimly lit candles. The menu features inventive twists such as guacamole with jicama, pineapple and mint or crab and smoked trout tostadas. For something a little different, fun and interactive you cant beat The Boiler 65’s seafood in a bag. 

A Step Up: One of Cleveland’s best streets to get a feel for the city is on East 4th street, home to Sawyer’s Greenhouse Tavern and Iron Chef Michael Symon’s Lola, two of the hottest tables in town.

Sweet Bites:  For the best selection of authentic ice cream flavors, Mitchell’s Ice Cream, is a must. A local treasure, expect a wait no matter the weather or the day of the week—it’s always crowded!  You’re bound to see Case students taking a break from their studies with a well-deserved cone.

Local Attractions: On campus don’t miss a look at the wild design of acclaimed architect Frank Gehry’s, Peter B. Lewis building home to the Weatherhead School of Management. University Circle is Cleveland’s cultural epicenter, boasting the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Western Reserve Historical Society, the Museum of Contemporary Art and CWRU’s Dittrick Medical History Center and Museum—among many others. When they’re not touring the world, The Cleveland Orchestra performs at Severance Hall, a stunning masterpiece of a concert venue. With everything from Michael Jackson’s sparkly glove to Lady Gaga’s meat dress, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum on the shores of Lake Erie is a favorite for tourists and locals alike since it opened in 1995. The 150,000-square-foot space features seven floors, five theaters, special events and always-changing exhibits so allow a few hours for a visit. Foodies don’t miss a stop at Cleveland's huge indoor West Side Market, a 1912 landmark with over 100 vendors.
