Connecticut College is a traditional New England school founded in 1911. The school is a thriving private, coeducational liberal arts institution nestled between the shores of Long Island Sound and the banks of the Thames River. Transportation: Airports serving the region are: T. F. Green Airport, Providence, Rhode Island (PVD); Logan Airport, Boston, Massachusetts (BOS); Bradley International Airport, Hartford, Connecticut (BDL); John F. Kennedy International Airport, (JFK) and LaGuardia (LGA), New York City. For information on traveling to New London via train, check the Amtrak website for their schedule. New London's Union Station is less than 10 minutes from campus by taxi or car.
Stay: Close to campus, you will find the Holiday Inn. Many families stay at The Hilton; situated in the heart of Mystic, across from The Aquarium. Also in Mystic, is The Marriott Hotel & Spa.
Coffee: Running late for your tour? Head to student favorite, Coffee Grounds for your morning caffeine boost. It's a busy place on campus so you'll see many students. We asked a student for her off-campus recommendations and she steered us to The Washington Street Coffee House, conveniently located in New London.
Breakfast: Students love Walk-in Coffee Closet at Ruane's Den located right on campus. In downtown Mystic, Rise serves pancakes, pastries, and sandwiches. The Washington Street Cafe serves a variety of breakfast items including great egg sandwiches and a killer Huevos Rancheros.
Lunch: One student told us, "Grab and go at Oasis Snack Shop for pizza, wraps or sandwiches ." We recommend ordering the Green Chili Burger at Engine Room. Grass & Bone is a neighborhood butcher shop and restaurant, specializing in local meats and whole animal butchery. Customers line the sidewalk to taste "A Slice of Heaven" at Mystic Pizza, famous for the 1988 movie hit. For a gourmet grab and go, head to Mystic Market.
Dinner
Casual: You will be hard pressed to find a better lobster roll than the one offered at Captain Scott's. Order the local scallops at The Engine Room. One alum told us she often craves the sushi at Jasmine Thai. For delicious artisinal pizza served in a relaxed environment, head to Mango's.
A Step Up: Reserve a table at the Oyster Club, a superb seafood eatery where nearly everything on the menu is local and organic. The menu at Bravo Bravo offers Italian style food; the chicken and eggplant parmagian dish is a popular choice.
Sweets: Be sure to stop by Mystic Sweets for a taste of fudge, candy, coffee, truffles, ..and yes, of course, ice cream.
Local Attractions: The Connecticut College Arboretum offers endless exploration for children, teens, and adults (click here for an intercative map.) Catch a show at the Mystic Aquarium. The Spice & Tea Exchange has a wide selection of seasonings for any food lover and dozens of choices for any tea enthusiast.
