St. Lawrence is a private liberal arts college located in the village of Canton in Saint Lawrence County in New York State. St. Lawrence is a small school home to approximately 2,400 students. St. Lawrence today is non-denominational, though originally founded by leaders of the Universalist Church, who were seeking to establish a seminary in 1856. The village of Canton is tucked between the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and the Canadian border.

Stay: The Best Western University Inn is the most convenient, located right next to campus. As an alternative to the Best Western, there are many Bed and Breakfasts in the surrounding area. The Litengard is also close to campus and is a quaint place to stay. In Potsdam, a 15-20 minute drive from campus, the rustic Clarkson Inn is many parents go to hotel when they are visiting.
Coffee: Fuel up at Brewer Bookstore, St. Lawrence's Bookstore right on campus.
Breakfast: The Bagelry is one of the few places in Canton to get breakfast, hence a student favorite. Another student recommends Foxy Roxy’s if you’re staying in Potsdam.
Lunch: The Village Diner has an extensive traditional diner menu located in Potsdam. First Crush, lined with local art is a cozy bistro serving all day breakfast, panini’s and small tapa style plates.
Dinner:
Casual: Jake's on The Water, is every student’s favorite place to take their parents. Approximately a 20-minute drive in Hannawa Falls, Jake’s is a scenic lakeside spot with a creative, inventive menu.
A Step Up: Quality ingredients and a seasonal menu are the highlights at The 1844 House, a restaurant as well as a B&B. Dinner is an event, so allow time for your meal, served in a simple, elegant style.
Late Night Snack: Sergi's Pizza and Banquet Hall is every student’s favorite late night spot.
Local Attractions: Lampson Falls is a beautiful waterfall where many students spend their time. The North Country offers a lot of scenic outdoor areas that are quiet and relaxing, with many nature trails and hikes. For a list of the best places to hike click here.
